Meet Our Team

Newlife Care has a team of 8 Staff, 3 Volunteer Program Coordinators, 7 Volunteer Team Leaders in various programs and a total of 230 volunteers. Without our teams of wonderful and committed volunteers, we would not be able to provide our services to the community.

Brett Lush | Executive Officer

Brett is passionate about people and has been working in, and around Christian Ministry for over 20 years. Together he and his wife, Mary-Ann have 3 children aged 18, 20 & 22.

Brett began his career in the Gold Coast Real Estate Industry just over 30 years ago with a clear goal of making lots of money.  On his deluded path toward fame and fortune Brett fell in love and married someone with far more grounded ambitions.

Now more passionate about people than money, his journey in Christian Ministry started with the Scripture Union YMIS program in 1996, including a stint with Gold Coast Youth Concern teaching Religious Education in local High Schools, holding a full time community pastor role in a local Church for over 5 years before taking up a position with the City of Gold Coast as a Community Development Officer. Brett spent almost 8 years working with the Benevolent Society as their Community Development Officer supporting families with children aged 0 – 8 years.

Brett was Chair of the Board for the Gold Coast Domestic Violence Prevention Centre (DVPC) for 5 years and also moonlights as a group facilitator in a Men’s Behaviour Change program for men convicted of DV offences. More recently after finishing his time on the Board, Brett worked full time for DVPC for 3 years coordinating their Men’s Programs and the Gold Coast Domestic Violence Integrated Response. Brett also chaired the Board of Newlife Care for the last few years before resigning that position, and his role at DVPC, to take on this role as Executive Officer.

Inspired by the belief that the local church should be one of the most influential voices and forces for good in our City, Brett is now using his community services, ministry experience and relationship building skills to build bridges and opportunities to link the local church with local mission by creating pathways for people to be ‘good neighbours’.
